Case study
As a leading luggage and accessories brand, Delsey Paris is focused on providing products that combine style and function. Delsey is known for creating high-quality products at an attainable price point so that customers have attractive travel gear that fits a modern, on-the-go lifestyle.
Well-known in European markets, for the last 80 years Delsey has distinguished itself from its competitors by featuring trend-leading design provided by around 30 suppliers from across China and Southeast Asia. Delsey conducts around three million product inspections every year.
The time commitment of useful quality data
Because Delsey has so many factories across a large geographic area, maintaining robust, current quality control numbers can be challenging. These struggles became particularly acute during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Managers found themselves and their staff stretched beyond their limits. COVID forced the company to reduce its QC staff, and they faced three specific challenges related to the efficiency of their QC efforts:
Insufficient manpower made it difficult to properly inspect and manage factories in the time they had available. Short-staffed, inspectors could not complete their assigned work during their assigned shifts, and the company risked poor quality outcomes as a result.
Because the company’s products are so specialized, it relies upon inspectors to carefully evaluate products using Delsey’s specific guidelines. This highlighted the importance of having customized QC software that its on-the-ground staff could use efficiently.
The QC system the company utilized made it difficult to extract useful quality data. Without a proper analysis function in their system, managers were forced to devote many hours to manually completing calculations. For example, uncovering the pass rates of its many factories in China was extremely tedious.
The company needed to find a QC system that let them do more with less time and fewer people.
QIMAone makes inspections and data analysis easier
QIMAone lets Delsey’s inspectors complete their work on time by giving them the tools to efficiently take, record, and report product inspections. Because QIMAone can be customized to meet Delsey’s quality control standards, managers can be sure their inspectors are gathering the specific data Delsey has decided is important.
Inspectors can take photos using their mobile devices and upload them into the platform so QC managers can access them at any time, from any location. It makes it a lot easier to organize your day when you can rely on inspector reports arriving on time.
Additionally, QIMAone makes generating reports much easier than relying on manual calculations. The platform completes a lot of the tedious work on its own, allowing managers to access the data directly so they can make decisions faster and more effectively.
Finally, Delsey has taken advantage of the booking system offered through QIMAone to easily schedule inspections that focus on their particular needs at that moment. Their previous QC system was not as comprehensive; having all their QC needs in one convenient place is a tremendous time-saver.
Delsey manager Nick Zhang has a lot of good things to say about the company’s switch to QIMAone.
Jean Tai, Sourcing Director, is also very happy with QIMAone’s onboarding services, which have allowed the Delsey team to get working with the platform quickly while they are still learning to use all its capabilities.
The numbers show how QIMAone has helped Delsey reach its QC goals since adopting the platform:
| Quality-related costs | Defect rate | Inspection time |
|---|---|---|
| -20% | -25% | -30% |
