SASO Regulatory Update – December 2022

On December 27, 2022, SASO provided new guidance for Small Air Conditioners that will be effective starting January 2, 2023.

• The submission of the declarations of the functional requirements related to cooling and heating performances will be terminated. Functional requirements related to cooling and heating performances (as applicable), shall be tested and included as part of the test report.

• Rating cooling capacity and rated cooling power at Full and Half capacity shall be included in the test report (as applicable).

• Declaration of compressor stages as per clause 3.2 (Fixed capacity, Two stage capacity, Multi stage capacity, or Variable capacity) shall be included in the test report.

On December 16, 2022, SASO published a new Technical Regulation for Pressure Equipment in the official gazette. Currently, only the Arabic version is available.

On December 23, 2022, SASO published amendments to the General Technical Regulation for Conformity Certificates.

On December 5, 2022, the KSA Ministry of Commerce issued a recall for The Laundress Laundry and Household Cleaning Products as they contain bacteria that may lead to serious infection when consumers are exposed to it for long periods and for those with weak immunities. Consumers are encouraged to stop using the product and contact The Laundress for a full refund. Products impacted are identified through the following payment codes:

• Begins with the letter "F" and the last four digits are 9354 or less.

• Begins with the letter "H" and the last four digits are 2262 or less.

• Begins with the letter "T" and the last four digits are 5264 or less.

On December 20, 2022, the KSA Ministry of Commerce issued a recall for the charcoal color models of IKEA ODGER Swivel Chairs due to a defect that could lead to the possibility of it falling and causing injury to user. Consumers are encouraged to stop using the product and contact IKEA for a full refund.
